Basically a gauge convertible K class with a larger boiler. In 1927 N 110 was fitted with a trailing axle booster, removed 1945.

N 110 - 139 recieved their modified front ends from 1936 to 1942.

N461, 465, 471, 474, 477, 485, 490, 491, 494, 495 sold to SAR in 1950 - 1951 becoming 750 class.

Many N's were converted to oil burning in the 1950's

N 432 has the distinction of being the last steam loco built at Newport workshops, July 25 1951.

ABOVE: N 110, (as built)  fitted with Coale safety valves (a trial for the S and X class) It also has disc wheels on the tender as a trial.

ABOVE: N 134 (which became N 424) commenced running Feb. 18 1931. It is shown with electric headlight but before getting its Modified Front End and deflectors.

ABOVE: N 432 was the last steam loco Newport ever built.        

ABOVE  : N 432 commenced running July 25 1951.  Converted to oil burning Nov. 1954, got smoke deflectors Nov. 1957 and is fitted with Box Pok driving wheels.    Off Register May 1966.
