A decent sized yard at Port Melbourne and quite a few sidings along the way ensured that the Flinders Street to Port Melbourne line always had a lot of shunting activity, in addition to its constant suburban passenger traffic. Trains were permitted to run on the Port melbourne line without a guards van. Here we see Y 153 on a transfer run, stopped on the bridge over the Yarra river at the home signal controlling the entrance into Flinders Street, July 1978.
