One of VR's shorter lived branch lines was the Bittern to Red Hill line on the Mornington Peninsula. The almost 10 mile long branch was opened on Dec. 12 1921. It lasted until July 1 1953, barely 30 years. This fine view is looking towards Melbourne, the turntable was behind the goods shed. My guess is that this photo was taken a few years after opening, mid 1920's.

The photo below appears to have been taken around the time of the line's opening, perhaps on opening day?
