St Albans

1979 signal diagram

An up Flinders St service departs "old" St Albans and is about to swing over onto the up line. As can be seen, the station used to be North of the Main Road level crossing. It was moved South of the level crossing in 1959 as a result of the provision of a 3rd platform for terminating suburbans and it no doubt drastically reduced the number of train movements over the busy level crossing. (The present day signalbox can be seen to the right of the last car of the Tait train) Photo circa late 1950's.

P 23 on a down Sunbury commuter service, Oct 24 1988.
