A North East line fixture for many years has been the Brooklyn to Kilmore East "Apex" (later called Pioneer) quarry train. The train started running in the mid 70's and continues to this day. It usually consisted of 18 JQF wagons and usually had a S or X plus a T class. Before guards vans were done away with it had a van at each end to simplify shunting at the quarry. The quarry is situated a short distance North of Kilmore East station and the train must cross over the standard gauge to access it. This photo was taken from the Wallan signal box of the empty "Apex" in June 1986
